Amber Lights Photography will be celebrating their 15 year anniversary in 2012 and we could think of no better way to say thank you than to give back. That's why 2012 will be a year full of raising donations for an array of charitable organizations.

To kick it off we are hosting a GO RED FOR WOMEN party at the Amber Lights Photography studio on February 16th from 6 pm to 8 pm. We will be having raffles and an auction for Heart Healthy giveaways like gym memberships, yoga classes and massages. Wear red to show your support!

This cause is very close to our hearts. One of our own staff was affected when her mom suffered a heart attack while they were together. The symptoms were nothing like she had expected a heart attack to be. Her mom is now fine, after surgery and medication.

Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in this country and yet so many women do not know what symptoms to look for! Please visit the American Heart Association's website to read about symptoms and prevention.

We had a blast last weekend in Saugatuck for our first beach weekend of the summer. Fabulous clothing combinations (which took a trip to the studio to get the OK from Amber) & a picture perfect sunset made for some of the best beach portraits to date! We can't forget to mention our brave senior Brooke who braved the body numbing Lake Michigan waters for an awesome wakeboard shot. The Paws for a Cause pet portraits have once again had an amazing turn out at Amber Lights Photography! It always amazes me the trust our clients have in us to have fun and be imaginative while creating art to display of their furry loved ones! Thanks to our friends at Puppy cuts, Highland Veterinary, and Pet supplies plus of Milford for the all the great donations for our doggy swag bags. Last month, Rottermond Jewelery and LaFontaine Cadillac hosted a fun and fabulous charity event at Rottermond's downtown Milford location. The evening was catered by Corattis on Main. Congratulations to a wonderful couple, Holly and Jeff! They had an amazingly beautiful wedding at The Inn at St. John's. They were such good sports toughing out the terribly hot weather for some amazing pictures in the courtyard! We even convinced Holly to climb across some rocks in that killer couture dress and her bling Jimmy Choos! I hope that Italian honeymoon was nothing short of amazing! I have photographed Amanda and her family for a few years now and have waited to get "the call". I so excited to sit with her and her mom and finally talk about wedding plans. We were discussing my love for NYC and Amanda tells me that NYC is where Joel purposed! The rest is obvious we went crazy with idea's of their engagement session, ending with us all spending a beautiful fall weekend in New York. Joel's first words were to me "just tell me what to do, I have no idea what I am doing". He worked it like a rock star real quick! Amanda found the perfect guy for her. He treats her like a princess and a best friend.

road trip

This summer we visited some clients up north and had some local clients take the road trip with us to the beach. It is always an experience as to what mother nature may bring us. Many phone calls and a bit of guidance from our Doppler friend made it all work out!

I was amazed that little miss"L" wasn't dizzy after all of the airplane rides.

Had a great time with dad "Q" and the twins. Of course a session with dad and kids ends up with everyone jumping waves by the time it's over.

Dad did all the planning for the beach senior/ family session, yet thought he was getting off easy after the third shot yells out to me " you got it". My answer was we "got it" but I'm not done! This family has kept me laughing from consult, session, to viewing appointment.

Recognize the gorgeous eyes? We have had fun photographing Sara and Andrew a few times this year. It started L.Y. at their beautiful wedding and continued into the summer with the blended family portraits, and now we are so excited to be photographing her maternity session. Sara really was a gorgeous bride but we think she glows as a "hot momma".

Some clients need some guidance on the wardrobe and some don't. All I have to say to momma "K" is bring it all! Momma sure knows how to accessorize. One question... when you do the pet portrait this week, will the dog have accessories?

What a fabulous fun day we had!
You know it's a good day when I talk too fast for my husband to understand. It's in my high pitch after session speed.

Fresh back from our Vegas trip,we have been right into back to back sessions every day. We will post video and images from Vegas soon, I promise.

This session was a product shoot for a local designer of bridal jewelry. Arbie and Geoff have such a passion for this business, that I just had to be a part of their first step in getting their work out there. You will see them in the video. Thanks to our models Katelyn and Elizabeth. Great job girls, you worked the look. The hardest part of the job was keeping the look since we were all laughing too much.

The Wait Is Over...

One fall day

I'd say Leslie is the most patient client of the year. Why? Oh, how mother nature was not on our side this season for her outdoor session. I think the magic number of reschedules due to weather might have topped out at 3! We really were down to the last of the fall days. It just got to the point of being humorous to us both. But what a little patience can bring. We are thrilled with the results. Leslie maybe not so much, as she cant decide how many to hang in the house (not such a bad problem to have). We are doing this in baby steps. Cant wait for you to see your wall portrait(#1),Leslie!

Rex came in over a year ago to have me shoot some editorial work for him. Instantly a friendship was born. He is a fabulous decorator with impeccable style and has an amazing ability to know what you want with out many words. Just wait, he is going places! Watch out Nate Berkus.

When he has his website re-design done I will post it for all to see.

I had a fabulous time shooting these images for his new website. I was determined to not let him be nervous. It would have been easier to go get a cocktail first, but we did it.

Just a moment to breathe before going down the aisle.

I just have to remind everyone of this wedding date in Michigan. Two days after Christmas! These two were blessed with the weather we had for their day. Storms were in the forecast yet beautiful sun is what they got. Meant to be! Emily was a trooper. I tried to give her my coat in between shots but she would have no part of it. She said she had prepared herself for worse weather so she wasn't phased by the cold.

A bit of sunset in December in Michigan was an amazing moment.

Finally, I am allowed to share the news. Kelly's new nickname is Kelly Belly! Or at least for the next 7 months. After that would just be rude. Auntie Amber and auntie Medora are fighting for the "godmother" title. Baby name for now is "baby sprout". smiles! Now it makes sense to you if you have noticed our chipper Kelly has been sporting a little shade of green. She is feeling better these days. We are so happy for her and hottie hubby (we are about nicknames around here).

winter wonderland at our villa

It takes team work to make a 5 foot snow man in 5 minutes. Kelly got this shot of me snow man building since we can't have mommy to be lifting snow boulders.

It's a winter wonderland out there.. the holidays may have came and went but the snow is relentless! So let's not let it go to waste! We still have space on our "snow dayz" waiting list and We are scheduling winter portraits for families or high school seniors at the villa. Call the studio to hear all of our idea's.

Today I had the pleasant surprise of seeing my friend"s name on the schedule for a session. I sent her a quick text to tell her I had an idea of doing something different than the original holiday plans. Leave it to her to have just the right outfit. Kelly and I were shooting this concept of my baby "coco" (aka studio mascot) earlier this week.

O.K. so from time to time clients will bring me my fav. starbuck latte treat. And lets be honest a caffeinated photographer is always a good photographer, so it really is a smart move on their part. :)

Well, now we've gone from coffee to fashion! I'm getting spoiled and I like it! :) I'm wearing my jacket and lovin' it. Isn't it my job to "get" my clients yet you "got " me. The jacket and N.Y. cards are absolutely perfect. Thank you!

Family time

We have just been everywhere with families lately. Medora (a.k.a the friendly voice on the phone) has been doing an amazing job keeping all things running smooth with our hectic schedule combined with the weather running the show. So far sooo good!
We had a blast on this session! We have photographed both guys senior portraits so it made for a fun family session. Nice game faces everyone, you rocked it out. You cant tell in the shot but we were all freezing! Kelly had her eye on my new gloves the entire time.

Part of this group have been coming to us pretty much since day one for baby number one. It was so nice to finally meet the entire family. "J" next time we will get your family to travel down here for the other side of the family.

Who do you think is center of attention in this family? Doesn't matter what size the dog they all think they are lap dogs.

Babies know how to make liars out of their parents don't they? I never saw a colic crying baby that they warned me about. He was a little warm snuggle bug the entire session.

The family portrait promo has been such a success we did extend it into mid November. There are just a few spaces left so hurry and call. Medora will do what she does and fit you in!

N.Y. destination wedding

As many of you know N.Y. is my second (wanna be) home. I have even designed my studio with the feel of a New York loft. What can I say it's like a love affair. So when I met Melissa and David from New York earlier this year at a Michigan wedding we just clicked. To my surprise, so much so that Melissa went home and cancelled her photographer that she had booked. How flattering!

Picture this! I was in the city a few days prior to the wedding, doing a bit of shopping in Soho (heaven!) and came across this doorway. So on our "trash the dress" day after the wedding we came back and got this shot. Jump forward two days later back in Michigan, home watching Lipstick Jungle..... and OMG.....there is Victory Ford the fashion designer coming out of her new clothing store which is this door way in down town Soho!
By the way Kelly wants me to let everyone know I had to text her at 11:00 pm to have her see it!

A few moments in Central Park is a must.
This shot is just a few hours before I had to fly to the airport. So no time to spare. Like most brides the day after a long wedding day, Melissa was hurtin' in her stuart Weitzman shoes. Again like every bride she was willing to sacrifice her feet for the playful shot below. She was a trooper and said it was so worth it!

off to college

Well, like many of our senior mommies we are feeling the pain of our "babies" going off to college. Our two fav. interns were off to college and in true ALP fashion there was no better reason to eat cake! We will skip lunch, go to the gym one extra night, or let Becky kick our butts in one of her work out classes just to celebrate and eat cake!

I just want to say we have a great "family" here and it takes some adjusting when part of the family leaves. I want to say thank you girlies for a fabulous year! Go be and do great things. Keep in touch. We will see you next season.

Nicole + Eamon = wedding

The best man said it all in the toast. You don't have to be around this couple for too long without walking away saying that you made a new friend. Thank you to all of you for a great day!

And to answer the question for the ladies in the wedding party....Yes, I do travel and will love to go to Jersey when you find the man of your dreams.

It was a little tricky getting through the belle isle grand prix traffic to the Detroit Yacht club but when we did it made a beautiful backdrop for the evening.

The ceremony was held at the gorgeous Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament

We didnt have to travel too far in the morning to photograph the bride getting ready. Her parents home is in Milford as is our studio and their home made a beautiful background for bridal portraits.

By the way.... to our favorite jet setting bride and groom pilots. This time when we say we would love your comments it doesnt mean letting me know the next time you see me what you thought. Kelly and I got a kick out of your making a point to "comment" to us on the wedding day about how much you loved your engagement images. LOL :)

Don't forget the boys!
Funny thing is that so many moms ask me if we mostly photograph girls since we have a fashion flare in our style of photography. Lets not forget where the boys are shopping and how stylish they are as well. Our style isn't just fashion but a sense of truly capturing THEIR style and having a fun session so we can capture their unique personalities and most importantly having a great time doing it!
We had a great time during our session with Mitch. He has a killer wink. ;)

Seniors beach day

Spent the weekend at the beach on the west side of Michigan. We photographed seniors and families. I love going to the beach. Rain or shine its beautiful. Everyone did an amazing job.

Girl, you got yourself a keeper in this cutie pa tutie. He was so helpful!
